Tigers Whoop Jayhawks

How 'bout them Tigers! My beloved Missouri Tigers came from behind twice yesterday to defeat their arch-rival Kansas 41-39 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

The Tigers defense got pushed around all afternoon long but stepped up big time at the end and sacked KU quarterback Sod Reesing for a safety to cut the chickenhawks lead from 39-38. Three plays later the Tigers were inside the KU five and a couple of plays later the game was over and the Tigers had won.

Kudos to Blaine Gabbert, Derrick Washington and Danario Alexander who moved through a lame Kansas defense pretty much at will. Gabbert passed for over 400 yards, Washington had several key runs for touchdown and Alexander had over 220 yards receiving on the day. And a tip of the hat to the Tiger coaching staff of Gary Pinkel.

The Tigers shot themselves in the foot all afternoon long with stupid penalties and even dumber personal fouls. But, in the end the cream rose to the top and Mizzou has bragging rights for at least the next year. And you know what makes the win even sweeter? Missouri handed Kansas it's seventh consecutive defeat after they had started the year 5-0. Yep, the chickenhawks were a fraud from the start and all that bull about their winning the Big 12 north was just that...a bunch of hot air. And to top it all off Mark Mangino and his band of losers are done for the season and aren't going anywhere near a bowl unless they buy a ticket!!!

Still Trying to Figure out What Happened Yesterday

The Sun still rose this morning, but when I looked out on the net I see where the Tigers still lost to the lowly Baylor Bears yesterday. I know Mizzou can't score in the second half and that puts a lot of pressure on the defense. And Mizzou's defense was on the field a lot and it showed in the fourth quarter. In fact, the Tigers were outscored 24 to 5 in the second half.

As I wrote below this, the Tigers bowl streak is in jeopardy, and they must beat two of their last three opponents to get to a bowl. Kansas State will be tough on the road next week, and then Iowa State comes to Columbia the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Keep in mind that Iowa State has already beaten Nebraska this year, something the Tigers could not accomplish. And the regular season finale is at Arrowhead against those low life Kansas Jayhawks. That will be tough.

Granted this Tiger team is young, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be improving. And that's a question that head coach Gary Pinkel is going to have to answer to move the program to the next level.

Tigers Escape Stillwater with a Win

My beloved Tigers basketball team went into Stillwater, Oklahoma this evening and escaped with a 97-95 win against a good Oklahoma State squad. The Tigers led by 20 points with ten minutes to go in the second half but barely got out of the pit; Gallagher-Iba arena. The Tigers pressure wore down the Cowboys in the second half as they built the lead. But, OK-State capitalized on Missouri's turnovers and cut the lead to a point with a minute to go.

The win moves Mizzou to 16-3 and 3-1 in the conference. OK-State is now 12-5 and 2-2. The Tigers play next at home Saturday against Texas Tech.

It also provides some payback for the Cowboys football upset of Missouri in Columbia back in October.

Way To Go Longhorns

As a fan of Mizzou, it is sometimes hard to root for the Texas Longhorns especially after the whooping they gave the Tigers in October. But, I am happy for Texas and it's fans in their come from behind win over an Ohio State team that played over it's head in last night's Fiesta Bowl.

With the win the Longhorns run the Big XII's record in bowl games to four and two. (All three North Division teams, including Mizzou, won their bowl games). While Ohio State played well in Phoenix, it left the Little Eleven conference (OK, OK...Big 10) with a bowl record of 1-5. Once again the Little Eleven has failed to live up to the media hype. Last night the cream rose to the top.

North Division Champions

The Missouri Tigers rolled last night over an out manned Iowa State football team. The final score was 52-20 Mizzou. The Tigers offense got un-tracked early and the defense stepped up too. William Moore (IMHO the best defensive player on the squad) finally got a touch, with a pick of an errant Iowa State pass in the second quarter. The game was never close or in doubt as Mizzou led 21-0 early in the second quarter.

The victory runs the Tigers record to 8-2. Maybe more importantly it puts to an end a long streak of bad luck in Ames. Missouri has always had it's problems winning there. Maybe this is the start of a long streak for the Tigers.

And, oh yeah before I forget, the Tigers have clinched the Big XII North Division! That means the final regular season game in two weeks against Kansas is meaningless. The Big XII Championship game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on December 6Th. MIZ - ZOU RAH!!!
