...But It's Cold Outside

Winter has officially arrived...and when I walked out the door to go to church about 7:30 it felt like it. The wind chill was -15 and the actual temperature was just 6 degrees. But, it's warmed up now....all the way to 14.

Two Down...Thirty Two to go

The Bowl season is upon us again. It began in earnest today with four games. If you do the math from the headline above there are 34 bowl games this season. And that's way too many. Teams like Notre Dame are playing in a bowl with a six and six record. They just don't belong. They were drilled by mediocre teams all season long. And what's just as bad is they aren't the only 6-6 team playing in the post season.

The NCAA needs to change it's rules and require a team to have a winning record in order to play in a bowl. But, the realities are that's not likely to change as long as there is money to be made from television (namely ABC/ESPN) and fans willing to buy tickets to yet another game.

Who drank all the Christmas Ale?

I was at the Schlafly Tap Room in downtown St. Louis the other evening. When I got there I had planned on getting an Imperial Pint of the seasonal Christmas Ale. But, to my surprise and disappointment there was none. It had all been consumed. Now, in years past it has lasted until after Christmas. I tried to find out why it had already sold out, but the bartenders, B & T, told me they really didn't know. At least I got to taste it before Thanksgiving. Too, bad there isn't more of it on tap. Maybe, I can find some in bottles at a grocery or liquor store. Or, perhaps Schlafly management has set some aside for the 17th Anniversary party later this month.

KWMU Hires New General Manager

KWMU Radio has named Tim Eby of Columbus it's new boss. Eby replaces Patty Wente who parted ways with the station and University of Missouri - St. Louis back in June. For the announcement visit KWMU's Web Page.

Mizzou Gets Slaughtered

There was no doubt Saturday night who the better team was at Arrowhead Stadium. I knew Oklahoma would probably beat the stuffing out of Mizzou. After all, they've been pounding teams all season. The only thing I didn't like was Brad Stoops running up the score so his team could score 60 points in five straight games. The whole BCS ratings thing needs to be changed so margin of victory and total points don't play a factor.

Does OU belong in the national championship game? I don't know. Texas beat them in mid October and they both have the same record. So, my thought is Texas is the better team and deserves a shot at the national title.

Mizzou ends the regular season at 9-4 and is headed to the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. It's a decent bowl, but Missouri should be playing in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day and not Nebraska. Missouri has a better record and beat Nebraska 59-10 back in October. But, apparently game results are meaningless in the world of Bowl executives.
