Missouri Tiger Football Off to a Great Start

If you read this blog frequently, you know I'm a big fan of college football and specifically the Missouri Tigers. Mizzou is off to a 3-0 start, beating up on cupcakes Central Arkansas and Louisiana (the team formerly known as the University of Louisiana at Monroe).

The Tigers also had a huge win over their archrival Kansas nine days ago on September 7th. The Tigers got down 21-6 ten minutes into the game and then clawed their way back to a 21-21 tie at the half. Missouri dominated the chickenhawks in the second half, outscoring KU 21-10. In the last 50 minutes of the game, Mizzou outscored Kansas 36-10. Mizzou ran away to win the game 42-31.

Mizzou will take its undefeated record into this Saturday night's game against South Carolina (2-1) at Faurot Field in Columbia at 6 p.m. CDT. ESPN will show the game nationally.

So Long September

My St. Louis Cardinals wrapped up the 2019 season by playing mediocre baseball in a mediocre division.  The Birds won the National League Central Division with a record of 91-71, two games ahead of a beat up Milwaukee Brewers team and seven games in front of an overrated Chicago Cubs team.  Next up the Cards will play the Atlanta Braves in the National League Division Series starting on Thursday October 3rd in Atlanta.  I wouldn't be surprised to see the Braves sweep the Cards.

In football my beloved Missouri Tigers are off to a 3-1 start after having laid a big turd in Laramie, Wyoming in the season opener.  Mizzou wasn't ready for the Cowboys and lost the contest despite getting up 14-0 on its first two possessions.  Since then they have played two bad teams in West Virginia and Southeast Missouri.  They pounded South Carolina 34-14 two weeks ago, but South Carolina will be lucky to finish with a .500 record in the SEC.

And I won't miss the heat of September.  This has been one of the warmest September's I can remember in my life and I am old.  The temperature today was 94 degrees on the last day of the month.  I look forward to cooler fall temperatures.  But, at the same time I don't look forward to the cold and snow of the season that comes after fall.

All Hail the Crimson Tide

OK, this is late in being posted but I still need to say it.  Congratulations to the Alabama Crimson Tide on winning the 2013 NCAA Football Championship. 

If you watched the game you know it was no contest.  Had it been a prize fight it would have been stopped in the second quarter.  The Tide totally dominated Notre Dame in the 41-14 win.  My thought at the end of the game was Notre Dame was about the same level as Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.  The Irish would have been beaten by LSU and Texas A&M.  If Notre Dame played Alabama 20 times Alabama would win each time and they would all be mis-matches.  The Tide are just that good.

Congratulations to the SEC on winning it's 9th BCS championship in 15 years.  The next closest conference in BCS wins is the Big 12 with a whopping two victories.

I'm Still Here

I know its been a while since I last posted but I am still here.  I have been watching my beloved Tigers and they are where I thought they would be at this point at 2-2.  They got spanked yesterday at South Carolina 31-10 in a game that was never really in doubt.  Up next for Mizzou is Central Florida in Orlando this Saturday morning.

I've also been following the St. Louis Rams. They have played better this year thus far under new head coach Jeff Fischer, than they did last year.  They are 1-1 as I write this but are down two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.  The Rams are the youngest team in the NFL and they are going to have growing pains as the season progresses.  But, still I am optimistic about this franchise's future.
